A play for big and little sultans based on the children's book by Claudia Schreiber
The Sultan does absolutely nothing except getting married. And even that isn't fun. His hundred wives cater to his every need. And him? He sits on his pile of cushions and gazes out to sea. Boring. Nothing going on.
"Is this fun?" asks his new servant. The Sultan just shrugs. He has no idea about fun. About the "taste" of it, falling asleep with an orchestra, Sultan's spit, and vacations. "High time for a tile and pillow change!" thinks his new servant and lets the Sultan fall from the cushion mountain winch – bang – onto his exalted behind. "You scumbag," scolds the Sultan, yet secretly pleased that something exciting is finally happening in the palace! With a servant like Scumbag, the lazy Sultan's life can really become thrilling.
"Sultan and Scumbag" is a German-Iranian co-production of KiTZ Theaterkumpanei and Taatr Mani from Tehran. Together, the two ensembles are developing a bilingual performance for Germany and Iran. The exciting part: six versions of the play are created with different casts and various scripts, depending on the performance location, with more German or Persian language.
A play about growing up, education, and setting boundaries..
